Rage, Hatred, & Fate
Rage, hatred, fate: we came
from a state of late drowned
by waste, defaced, sacred acres long gone
unhonored, ponds squandered. we
wandered it calmly back
then, feet fondly feeling our beaches, eyes
seeking sea-creatures offshore. No more.
Forecasts foretold and foreboded
unfortunate storms and they poured.
Correctives unsought, we thoughtless begot
this world-rot without thought all ourselves
and wrought Hell. All’s well
still tell some elders, peddling Heavens
they haven’t detected were burned.
Lesson learned, the world turns, and
the unfurling ferns and the worms in the earth
hurt the worst for our failure.
Fracking shale,
farming whales,
laissez-faire, wearing
aerosol hairspray and chemical dyes...
Why find surprising with eyes wide by hindsight
that trying to live with these pitiful unhindered sins was imbecile?
If cinders and wisps were our wish,
we’re all winners
